Description:
This presentation will allow participants to better
understand the end-of-life needs of Atypical Parkinson's
patients and their families. The speaker describes the
symptoms that differentiate these diseases among themselves
and from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Affirmations, personal
stories and group discussion to brainstorm solutions to
difficult issues facing these patients and the hospice and
palliative care staff who care for these patients are used.
Objectives:

List and define unique symptoms for the
atypical Parkinson's diseases of Progressive Supranuclear
Palsy (PSP), Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD), and Multiple
Symptom Atrophy (MSA).

Describe difficult end-of-life issues
facing patients and families dealing with atypical
Parkinson's diseases.

Outline solutions for dealing with each of these issues.
