This course is part of HEN's "What You Need To Know and What You Need To Do"
series of information that should be presented to hospice staff and volunteers
annually. The focus is on recognizing and
preventing abuse, neglect, exploitation and mistreatment of hospice patients by
staff, caregivers, family, and acquaintances.
Different types of abuse and their warning signs are defined. Specific factors
related to hospice and palliative care are described, with follow-up actions to
be taken by the interdisciplinary group or individual professional if abuse
occurs.
OBJECTIVES:

Distinguish between different types of abuse and their warning signs.

Describe hospice/palliative care specific factors that can lead to abuse,
neglect, mistreatment, and/or exploitation.

Describe actions for the hospice/palliative care team to take when abuse is
suspected.
