0.7 contact hours
Description:

This course is part of HEN's "What You Need To Know and What You Need To Do" series of information that should be presented to hospice staff and volunteers annually.  Common causes for and prevention of workplace accidents are identified, such as back safety, falls, ergonomics, electrical and  fire hazards, driving a car, infection control, hazardous waste, and emergency/disaster.  This course is to help ensure employee/volunteer safety from accidents in workplace settings, versus this series’ companion courses “Safety in the Home” (focused on patient safety) and “Workplace Violence” (targeted at violent threats and behaviors).

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Identify common causes for workplace accidents.
  2. List workplace safety risks specific to your job.
  3. Describe ways to ensure workplace safety: back, falls, ergonomics, electrical, fire, driving a car, infection control, hazardous waste, emergency/disaster.
  4. Identify follow-up steps in case a work-place injury occurs.
  5. Refer to your agency’s Human Resources manual and/or policies and procedures on workplace safety.
