| Description:
This course is part of HEN's "What You Need To Know and What
You Need To Do" series of information that should be presented
to hospice staff and volunteers annually.
Common causes for and prevention of workplace accidents are
identified, such as back safety, falls, ergonomics, electrical
and fire hazards,
driving a car, infection control, hazardous waste, and
emergency/disaster.
This course is to help ensure employee/volunteer safety from
accidents in workplace settings, versus this series’ companion
courses “Safety in the Home” (focused on patient safety) and
“Workplace Violence” (targeted at violent threats and
behaviors).
OBJECTIVES:

Identify common causes for workplace accidents.

List workplace safety risks specific to your job.

Describe ways to ensure workplace safety: back, falls,
ergonomics, electrical, fire, driving a car, infection
control, hazardous waste, emergency/disaster.

Identify follow-up steps in case a work-place injury occurs.
-
Refer to your agency’s Human Resources manual and/or
policies and procedures on workplace safety.
