Description:
This course is part of HEN's "What You Need To Know and What
You Need To Do" series of information that should be presented
to hospice staff and volunteers annually. Different
types of advance directives
are discussed, and why they matter: living wills, Durable
Power of Attorney, DNR, AND, Declaration of Mental Health
Directive, and others.
Actions are listed to ensure the patient’s advance directives
are documented, communicated, and implemented. This course is
designed for all hospice/palliative employees and volunteers,
not just clinical careproviders.
Objectives:
- Describe what advance directives are and why they matter
for hospice / palliative care patients, families / caregivers,
and professional care providers - Identify types of advance
directives: living wills, Durable Power of Attorney (DPOA),
DNR, AND, Declaration of Mental Health Directive, organ donor
card, and Declaration to Dispose of Body after Death - List
steps to ensure the patient's advance directives are
