Description:
This course is part of HEN's "What You Need To Know and What You
Need To Do" series of information that should be presented to
hospice staff and volunteers annually.
Examples of potential violence specific to hospice and
palliative patients are examined, with steps for reporting,
responding, and recovering.
This course targets violent threats and behaviors, in
contrast to this series’ companion courses “Safety in the Home”
(patient safety) and “Safety in the Workplace”
(employee/volunteer safety) that focus on accident prevention.
OBJECTIVES:

Recognize examples of potential violence in the
hospice/palliative care workplace.

Describe important risk reduction measures to be enforced by
(a) the agency, (b) the IDG/team, and (c) the employee.

Explain how to report potentially dangerous situations and
why it is important.

Describe ways to respond when a violent situation occurs.
-
List where to get more information, specific to one’s agency
and job.
