Description:
It is not reasonable or scientifically provable; yet, the
very last experiences of the dying are that of deceased loved
ones returning, or angels emerging, to accompany him or her
safely into death and into life after. The newly departed
then often reappear to the bereaved to give them assurance,
strength, and purpose to go on. What is this phenomenon, this
spiritual terrain our loved ones enter into at the end of
life? What can these experiences teach us about the possibilities
in the spiritual terrain of the living? Drawing on her work
with the dying and bereaved in hospice, and on her theological
and spiritual reflections and insights, Dr. Rusnak will explore
these questions and more.
Objectives:
- The participants will be able to explain the phenomenon
of deceased persons and/or angels appearing to the dying
at the very end of their life, and of the deceased appearing
after death to their bereaved loved ones.
- Participants will be able to demonstrate the phenomenon
of appearances in the myths and scriptures of
several religious or spiritual traditions.
- Participants will be able to describe and define several
possible spiritual functions, task, or purposes that these
appearances have for the dying and the bereaved.
