Compassion Fatigue: The Professional Caregiver's Dilemma (837)
72 Minutes
1.2 contact hours /  Continuing Nursing Education /Social Work Clock Hours

Description:
Compassion fatigue can be a normal outcome of caring for families over a long period of time. As one client experience begins to resemble all others, it can become difficult for the professional caregiver to recognize the unique experience of each client. This program will discuss how compassion fatigue can be transformed into compassion-energized care. Mindfulness, attitude and hospitality will be discussed and illustrated as life giving practices that possess transformative powers.

Objectives:

  • The participants will be able to identify within themselves what, when, and how ‘compassion’ turns to ‘fatigue’ towards clients.
  • The participants will identify three ways of countering ‘compassion fatigue.’

Participants will identify the attitudinal components necessary to transitioning from being a novice to becoming an expert caregiver.
